If you are one of those who are finding ways to save on food expenses, try these cheap recipes and judge for yourself.
We all know that egg is cheap and a good source of vitamins and protein. Being so, I have learned a simple recipe to make it more enjoyable to eat. For this recipe, all that’s needed are eggs, tomato and onion.
Here’s how to do it:
Take two eggs and scramble it—add a pinch of salt for flavor;
Finely chop a small piece of tomato and onion
On a pan with oil, sauté tomato and onion over low fire until it’s caramelize
Pour the scrambled eggs over the pan and lower the heat further so as to allow the flavors of tomato and onion to sip through the eggs
Flip over the egg to let the other side cook
Serve and enjoy
This goes great for sandwiches and is excellent on hamburger buns.
Spicy tuna flakes
For those who are fitness conscious and want a high protein diet, this recipe will definitely hit the spot. Tuna is an excellent source of protein, omega 3 and fish oil, all of which are good for the heart. For this recipe, you’ll need one can of tuna flakes in water (I use Century Tuna Solids in Water), a piece of green chilies, black ground pepper, three gloves of finely chopped garlic, one medium-sized onion, two eggs and a tablespoon of margarine (optional).
Open a can of tuna flakes and drain the liquid—all that’s needed are the tune flakes itself.
Scramble the eggs and set aside
Chop a small piece of onion and green chilies
On a skillet with oil, sauté garlic and onion until it’s caramelize. Do this under low fire
Add the tuna meat, green chilies, ground black pepper, margarine and salt
Cook for two minutes
Add the scrambled eggs
Mix and cook for another two minutes
Serve and enjoy
If you are sick and tired of those canned tuna, with all of its fishy taste, this recipe will surely not disappoint.
This tasty and simple recipe is my personal favorite. Not only does it require some very basic ingredients, it’s also easy to prepare. You’ll find this recipe very good with fried rice—although I find it excellent as a beer companion. Without any further ado, here are the ingredients you’ll need:
A pound of pork (tenderloin or the rib part are excellent) cut into small pieces
Six cloves of garlic (pounded and chopped finely)
One medium-sized onion (chopped)
3 pieces bay leaf
½ teaspoon whole Black pepper
¼ cup of soy sauce
¼ cup of vinegar
¼ cup of cooking oil
2 ½ cups of water
On a low fire, boil the chopped pork on water until the water is reduced to nearly a cup— at this state the meat will already be tender;
Add the soy sauce, vinegar, bay leaf, black pepper, onion and garlic—mix well to allow the flavors to be absorbed;
When the sauce is about to dry out, add cooking oil and allow it to fry;
Mix on occasion to even the frying;
When the meat turns brown it is done
The scent of this dish is mouth watering. As you can see on the picture above, I’m sure you are going to love this.
In these economically challenging times, it is wise that we learn how to make the most of what we earn. I hope my recipes will help you in this endeavor.
