How to gain muscle mass

Since I was in my teenage years I have longed to gain muscle mass, and in this pursuit I have failed many times. The good thing though is that I have learned from my mistakes and adopt accordingly. One great error many have fallen for are our failure to distinguish what works from what does not—oftentimes we keep on doing the same thing even if it poses no visible results.

The simple truth however of how to get big muscles is to give your body what it needs to grow.

And what are these?

First, you need to have your muscle building workouts schedule

Second, you need to supply your body with foods that build muscle

Third—and the most important of them all—discipline and dedication

Although the abovementioned may sound simple, it’s really difficult for many to follow—laziness and weaning motivation are the common enemies. But one must realize that in life, when we really want something, it is a matter of having a firm decision—and following through—that separates the achiever from the losers.

Ok, let me discuss what I’ve enumerated above.

Workout schedule

To gain muscle mass you need to go to the gym and work your way through some routines that would enable your muscles to grow. Have the initiative to know the right workout for each muscle group and go though it on a regular basis.

Reality check:

When I first started my gym workout I was full of enthusiasm. I was so dedicated that I allow no obstructions to come between me and my workout. However, as weeks pass by, I have started to feel the pain I must endure every time I find myself in the gym. My enthusiasm slowly wanes as I anticipate the hard work I had to face once I go with my workout. At this point, laziness makes its powerful entry as it robs me of my will to go on. If you fall for this one, you will gain nothing. But if you pass this test all your efforts will pay off.

Muscle building diet

Still, many are not aware that proper diet is extremely important for building muscle mass. After a hard work at the gym, you muscle need the necessary replenishment in order to make it grow. In this aspect, you have to supply your body with protein and vitamins.

There are many bodybuilding idiots that would tell you to eat, eat and eat to grow. But eating without concern for the quality of what you eat would only jeopardize the result you want to attain. Carbohydrate loading and eating fatty foods are not the keys to growing big muscles—they however are good at stuffing our fat depo.

Protein

When building muscles, you need to supply your body with quality protein—like those found in eggs, read meat, milk and protein supplements. The rule of the thumb is to give your body 0.75 to a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. If for example you weigh 140 pounds, your protein requirements should fall within 105-140 grams of protein per day to gain muscle. If you find it hard to get all your protein requirements from the food you eat, protein supplements like Optimum Whey Protein powder will come in very convenient because it’s easy to prepare, easy to digest and has the same quality of protein that you get from food sources.

Vitamins

Our muscles need the right nutrients in order to grow. But since our diet varies, we cannot get all the nutrients we need on a regular basis. Here is where multivitamins comes in handy. In building muscles our bodies need certain nutrients to make such task possible, if we don’t supply these raw materials to our bodies, we won’t see any real results.

Still, ordinary multi-vitamins you find at drugstores are not enough. You should go for high-potency multivitamins specifically designed for athletes. In my case, I take Optimen and I suggest you give it a try.

Energy boost

Our level of energy does vary when we go to the gym. Sometimes we feel strong, but most of the time we feel weak. Though our minds are prepared to do the work, our bodies seem to be not in tune with it. Fortunately, I have found a way to give my body the energy boost it needs with the task ahead, I call it the Nitric Oxide experience. I would not elaborate further, just try taking USPlabs Jack3d before your workout, you would not believe the level of energy and mental focus you will experience.

Discipline and dedication

The last but the lifeline of your muscle building endeavor is your level of discipline and dedication. Many I have seen starting out of the gym full of enthusiasm and energy; but after a month or so they just vanished. These people want to have a good physique, yet they are not prepared to pay the price.

Listen to me. Don’t waste your time going to the gym if you are not firm enough to go through all the hardships you must endure. Body building will put your body through a lot of stress and discomfort, and repeated experience of such will discourage you to keep on going. Don’t fall for this trap!

Just keep your focus, stay with your routine and work hard. The fruits of your labor will pay off one day, and when that comes, you’ll feel very good about your achievement.

    Hey Walter,
Building muscle like building anything takes time, persistence and consistent action. I worked out for the better part of a decade with weight training.

I don’t lift weights anymore but I get my exercise from working outdoors doing landscaping and chopping wood.

    Hey Walter,

Being someone who spent a few years as a regular weight lifter I can appreciate what you’re saying here.

Starting new routines are difficult and there isn’t an immediate payoff in weight lifting. It takes months for your body to react properly and muscle building can be a slow process.

I found increasing my protein intake to 1.25 to 1.5 times my body weight and evenly distributing it throughout the day offered better recovery times and bigger gains.

I’m new to your blog so I’m going to spend some time searching around.

I liked this post, so I’m sure there’s plenty of good stuff here to keep me entertained :)
