I feel sad when one of the blogs I oftentimes visit waves goodbye to the blogging world. Early on in such a blog, I see enthusiasm and excitement; but as months pass by the fire burns out and slowly it loses its aggressiveness.
As I’ve learned and witnessed many times before, only a small percentage of bloggers makes it to being professional blogger. Understandably, these bloggers may have valid reasons for disappearing permanently online; among are the following:
–gotten busy with their jobs
–a change of priorities
–inevitable obligations that must be attended
–change of location
–grabbing other opportunities
Still, there are some that have gone simply because they have given up. It is unfortunate that they have not been able to withstand the challenges inherent in running a blog. If you’re an aspirant blogger hear this: blogging is not a walk in the park. It requires patience, hard work, persistence and faith to push the heavy rock of blogging goal.
It’s been more than a year since I started this blog and many times I want to give up. But such would only amount to the waste all the efforts I have made—and a betrayal of the success principle I promised to incorporate when it comes to achieving any goals that I set forth. So this is why I keep this blog up and running. I enjoy writing, I love expressing my thoughts, but hindrances prove to be a strong deterrent of this passion. They say that we have to do what we love, but oftentimes certain circumstances in our lives makes this conviction difficult. In the end however, it will always be up to us to allow ourselves to be defeated or not.
With these let me give you a picture of a dying blog:
Posting has become less frequent
A dying blog will manifest posting schedules far less than it has previously been. This only shows that the blogger has been giving less time to attend his/her blog. Common reasons could be that the blogger has run out of ideas to share, or that the enthusiasm to provide meaningful/useful content has faltered.
Quality of content deteriorates
Just for the sake of coming up with something to post most blogger fall into the mistake of providing gibberish contents. Maybe he has gotten lazy or the interest of writing something interesting has waned. The blogger thinks that having something to post alone is enough. When content proves to be nothing, sooner or later the readers will lose the intention of patronizing a blog, and such would spell a blogs inevitable demise.
Overall design and function remains the same
Change is a necessity for improvement, without change there is no willingness to evolve for the better; this same principle applies to a blog. A thriving blog will always make an effort to improve its overall design and function; failing on this aspect is a sign that the blog will never last.
Frequent hiatus
Interestingly, blogs that are on frequent hiatus does not last long. There are some blogs I have visited in the past who always tell their readers that they would be gone for a certain period of time, would post perhaps once in a blue moon and then would again disappear. In my observation, these bloggers would really want to blog regularly, but there’s something eating their time. Whatever it is it proves detrimental to the life of their blogs.
What about you, do you own a blog?
If so, will you keep it alive despite the many challenges that are sure to come?
Remember, you are the life of your blog.

How to unleash your true capacity
Well, I think we all go through phases. When I first started a blog, that main purpose was to share things and connect with people. However, with Twitter, Facebook, and all these other things popping up, these things are increasingly happening in different places and the effort is diluted. I am still in touch with many people who used to blog a lot but the posts are now few and far in between. I guess they’ve moved into another phase. We are still in touch though, but the medium has changed.

Hi Walter,
All the points you’ve said are true. The most likely reason why I will not be much active with my blog is because I don’t have enough time per day. Of course, I try to give some of my time for my site, but with some things popping up each day, I end up putting it off another time. I haven’t thought of giving up yet, but I admit that I am quite behind on the social media aspects.

I keep finding all these excellent articles on blogging. This one is no different. I have to admit I’m guilty of some of these things myself. Promising I’ll be back after “a while” and almost giving up on blogging all together. I do think i have something to say. I had some bad experiences and i think sharing my stories with other people might help me, a form of therapy perhaps and maybe i might even help someone else in the process. Have a great day!
