Doing my best to live in awareness each day, I have gained certain wisdom about the inimical ways of mankind. Disappointment fills my heart as I see people living life like drones—settling on a belief system they don’t bother to verify. Even among the intellects any query beyond the physical realm is purposely eluded; instead they dedicate their time and energy in finding ways to fully satisfy the whims of their temporary forms.
Everywhere I turn people long for the same things. They repeat the antiquated virtues of their forefathers, thereby procreating the same to their progenies. Much as before, things have been the same. Despite the so-called progress man has established over the centuries, the same vices and instincts dominate his perception of the truth. He may have succeeded in changing his surroundings for the better, but his heart and mind deteriorates as he becomes more subservient to the call of his flesh. Little is his awareness of the truth that any aspirations pertaining to this world are doomed to perish. Frequent nudges of his own mortality may awaken him momentarily, but relapsing back to his old ways proves inevitable; the voice of his spirit long forgotten.
The past and the present lay witness to the limited understanding of man. Success is highly favored over the “indignities” of failure; self righteousness is revered while mistakes are heavily vilified; pride is put on a pedestal while the acknowledgment of one’s vulnerabilities are despised; happiness are embraced as blessings while adversities are perceived as curse; ignorance is hailed where wisdom is mocked; fame and fortune have been the ultimate aspirations; power is greedily embraced as well as the illusion of its eternity. Indeed I have seen these poisons that are slowly crippling the future of mankind. As we grow more advanced, the means we employ to satisfy our selfish ways becomes more precarious.
Seeking the roots of the worldly aspirations of man, I see no purpose other than the satisfaction of his human nature. Most are blind to the influence of their instincts. While man proclaims his superiority among creations, he is but a puppet of this world. As a child of nature, he is subservient to the call of his flesh; despite his commonality with all other creations in terms of survival necessities, he is adamant of his illusory superiority. With greed dominating his heart, he slowly destroys the very cradle supporting his existence—Mother Nature. Indeed I am puzzled as to why we are bestowed with instincts common among other creations despite the fact that we are made in the image of God. We procreate, we dominate, we serve, we sacrifice, we hunger for power, we seek recognition and we want to have everything. But despite how much we acquire, satisfaction eludes our lot.
Is our existence just an accident of nature? Is there a shed of truth about the claim of science that we are nothing more than the evolution of this universe? That our awareness terminates when the body dies? From what I see, we act according to what nature has designed for us to perform. However I see an exemption, I have witnessed people who defy the call of their instincts. They are those whose awareness is beyond the limitations of their minds. They see their bodies as cages from which their true essence is shouting for liberation. Such is a manifestation that we are far more than our limited bodies.
The kingdom of God is within you. Luke 17:21
I am not a religious man but I don’t limit my understanding solely on the wisdom of the physical realm. My error is grave if I had allowed my body to stifle the manifestation of my spirit. While our bodies aspire what is of the body, our spirits are whispering for revelation. Unless we become aware of our spirits we can never step above the influence of our bodies.
What is there to gain if we acquire the world? Surely, we will never carry anything when we depart, but why are we still clinging to the things we cannot own for eternity? Why not seek the awareness of our spirits? The body fades but the spirit remains, but what will come of the spirit who is not aware of itself? This is a deep question only death can answer. However, deep within me, my true essence is slowly gaining awareness. The more I seek about who I am the lesser is my sense of belonging in this physical world. The awareness of my spirit is the only possession I can truly own. And as I lay await for the unknown time of my departure, the fear of the thereafter is replaced by anticipation.

Hi Walter,
You posed thoughtful questions, that led me to more. I gained an eloquent depiction of polarity from you post. While man is seeking external validation, happiness, truth, and abundance — they actually reside within him. This is where satisfaction lies.
Is there truth to this massive shift in consciousness that renown motivational speakers, spiritual leaders, and personal development followers tout? Are we effectively working to enlighten, give hope, and serve people’s spirits? I don’t know why sometimes the mind, body, and spirit are addressed as if they were three separate entities — I know mine are encased in one package.
Do we repel abundance because it is not virtuous, or that we do not acknowledge its existence within? It’s no secret how we are inside, is reflected in our environment.
You ask, “Is our existence just an accident of nature?” I see that we are a well orchestrated play, performing our roles with choices, decisions, and free will. Otherwise, where would synchronicity be?
For all your thought provoking questions, one thing is for sure — in nurturing our essence, our spirit, our soul, we will find fulfillment.
I believe that all the answers to our questions lies within us. Everything has already been and we just need to rediscover who we really are. The mind, the body, the spirit are just metaphors of our true essence. Words and depiction will never be enough to describe the divine that is in us. Self discovery will always be an inexplicable experience.
Perhaps this is the reason why Jesus uses a lot of parables in explaining the Divine.
Hi Walter,
This post was so beautiful. It is obvious that it was written from the heart. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.
When I was twenty-five, I had my mid-life crisis. I had achieved every single material desire and had never felt more empty in my life. That began a wonderful journey that was rooted in search for the answers and for meaning. It took time…about ten years but all that I was seeking was found.
Life does hold meaning. There is a purpose and that purpose is to make the most out of every day and to grow and learn to be our best. Of course, life is rooted in love and not in fear.
I could go on and on about what I learned but then this comment would be so long.

I know what’s it like to experience midlife crisis. I had it when I’m 26 years old. Up until now I cannot forget the inexplicable fear and emptiness I have experienced during those times. Perhaps that was the turning point of my life as it has changed my perspective about my existence. One important thing I have learned is awareness. By being aware I have allowed my spirit to step above my mind.
It’s really hard to explain. But every time my body and mind responds to certain events, I automatically become aware of it, and I am able to control my reponse.
That was deep. I had to read it a few times and I still can’t formulate a proper comment. I’ll be back to read it later!

Walter – you are clearly working hard to find the truth within yourself. I do think that learning that everything we need is already in our grasp is a beautiful lesson. Thank you!

I do believe that the most important aspect of our existence is finding our true essence. We can gain nothing from this physical world, only the awareness within can get us beyond the unknown.
Very thought provoking ideas Walter,
The spirit continues, even after death. Our mission on this journey as human beings is to find our passion and live it because when we do, we give back something to humanity. The energies will flow to us and through us.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this subject,

I say amen to this Val. Our spirit, which is our true essence defeats the phantom of death. Life is meant to be lived to the fullest, this is what we should always remember every time we wake up in the morning.
AMAZING AMAZING POST! You are such an eloquent writer and so glad I learn from each and everytime. I truly believe our inner purpose is to awaken. We are already that which we seek. I agree with Nadia up there it is also rooted in LOVE.
Thank You for this post

Thank you very much Therese. Your belief is also my belief. Our inner purpose is indeed to awaken. Our bodies may perish, but once we have awaken we will live for eternity.
