Deciding point: conquering limitations

discourage

Are there days when you feel you’re running out of fuel to keep on going with your goals? Or felt discouraged because your effort seems to be in vain? Or perhaps you are losing patience because results go against your expectations? One piece of advice: do not be swayed.

Let me tell you the truth: you are in the deciding point of your endeavor! Be careful. Few make it pass to this point. Most fall into the trap of the strange fetters of self-limitation; they simply stop, and “realize” they don’t have what it takes. This is where the successful is separated from the failures; unfortunately many chose the easy path of giving-up and letting go. How ironic are we human beings: we easily give up on things that will alleviate us (education, goal-getting, dream pursuance); but finding it hard to give up things that will lead us to misery (drugs, alcohol, precarious lifestyles, egoism).

I’m not a saint; I’m not immune to the weakness of the mind and body. However I want you to know that we all have a choice in life. And that we’ve got only one chance of life. I decided to make the best of it. I want this to be your life’s mission too.

A powerful wisdom I’ve learned in life is that we are more than we think we are. You, me and everybody else has the capacity for greatness. Even when circumstances prove to the contrary, YOU always carry the SPECIAL gift of making things happen. Don’t be a slave of the negative presumption of yourself, use your remarkable abilities!

All of us want to make something out of this life. Yes, all of us. Don’t’ tell me you don’t because once in your life you do have a dream. Whatever it is you are pursuing right now I want you to know that you can make it: provided that you won’t give up, and that you will persevere despite the challenges of hardships, criticisms and impossibility (who invented this debilitating lies anyway).

Let me tell you the nasty habit of the mind. Our mind is stubborn to change; it loves status quo and is afraid to stand out. It readily believes in popular opinion and is blind to even the starkest truth. No wonder few have made a mark in this world. Why are we allowing this? I thought we have the gift of volition; could science be true that we are using only 3% of our brain? I hope not. Great people, villains and heroes alike, have mastered the ability of believing in themselves.  Would it be grand to belong in their ranks rather than thriving in a self deprecating existence? Like I said, you have the gift of choice.

We all have aspirations that we want to materialize in our life. Some have made the first step while others are decaying in procrastination. If you belong to the former then you’ve won half the battle; still, you have to pass the deciding point: the stage where you feel you want to give up because you believe you have “reached your limit.” In my observation, few have mastered this trickery of life, and the reason is that most of us have small tolerance for difficulties. We want instant gratification; we want immediate result; we want shortcuts; we want numbers. These attitudes kill our true potential. Listen to me, you have powers far beyond you can imagine. I’m not being mystical, some of you are just ignorant of this ancient fact; Albert Einstein knew it, George Washington was staunch about it, Henry Ford asserted it, and Adolf Hitler abused it.

Success is like a marathon, you don’t need to run fast. What’s important is your determination to reach the finish. You may balk, you may fall, you may rest, you may bleed BUT you never give up. The pressure, discouragement, hopelessness and inadequacy will percolate on your mind: yet YOU are the master, you command your fate.

Feeling energized already? I hope so. Oh, I almost forgot; you can’t do wonders if you’re six feet below the ground. So charge right NOW!

The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win.

Now: the best time to live

The magic of perseverance

Conquering discouragement

P.S.

Our lifetime is not enough to know all the experiences of life. Therefore, we need to have other sources in maximizing our understanding of the many facets of our existence. In this regard I am bound to share with you the most powerful materials that have shaken my foundation and have changed my life as well as the lives of many.

Life is full of questions but I have found answers in perusing the books: The Road Less Traveled, Man’s Search for Meaning and The Power of Now, these has given me light on the deepest nature of man. Still, in searching for ways of enhancing my life I have found: Think and Grow Rich, The Magic of Thinking Big and Thick Face Black Heart. In matters of understanding my mind I was greatly enlightened by the suspense filled novel’s Way of the Peaceful Warrior, A Rich Man’s Secret and The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari. And finally, I have understood the pattern of my finances through reading Secrets of the Millionaire Mind.

Everything we wish in life will come upon us if we first seek the wisdom of knowing.

  1. Every successful business owner has been at that point. I’ve found myself at that point on numerous occasions. It’s what happens then that makes the difference between success and failure.

One thing that has helped me tremendously is associating with like-minded individuals. What I find is that whenever I get down, my partner is up, and we can feed off each other and continue to motivate each other.

    • Slinger says:

You are lucky to have a partner that brings you up when your low. I wish I had one.

Thank you Leslie for sharing your thoughts. :-)

  2. You are right! A lot of people give up easily. I don’t agree with one point though: You say we have only one chance in life, but I don’t believe this to be true! There will be things that we fail, and situations with which we deal poorly and it’s not just over at that point. There is always the possibility that if you didn’t achieve what you wanted then you didn’t really want it at all! In this case the only thing that helps is pushing the reset button hard and evaluating your goals. I think sometimes it is necessary to give up in order to get what you really want!

    • Slinger says:

You’re definitely right Verana. Thank you for pointing out the we don’t have only one chance in life. In fact we have many chances. However, we only got one chance of life (not unless you believe in reincarnation). We must live it to the fullest. :-)
Thank you for sharing your wisdom. :-)

  3. Jen says:

Wonderful post! You shared some very good points! I like the portion where you talk about the need to face the difficult, and stick to it mentality! There is nothing like the beauty of seeing that finish line, knowing how much it took to get there! This is the beauty of accomplishment that we all are born to experience. Not so much doing, but seeing ourselves for who we are – our greatness. I also think it is important to re-condition our minds. There are many toxic habits which can come into our personal life and we are the only one who can conquer these thoughts, and replace them, especially in regards to relationships. If we believe a certain way, we will certainly attract the same outcome as before. We must change our thought pattern, and our responses to get back in alignment. This changes the outcome. We can only take personal responsibility for ourselves, and our passion for the running! In this way we win, at every checkpoint! Blessings to you, ~Jen

    • Slinger says:

You’ve shared a wonderful thought Jen. We must always remember that we are the captain of our destiny. We choose to succeed or to stay a failure.

Thank you for sharing your idea here. :-)

A well written and inspiring post, it is helping me get past the ridiculous heat over here in Bangkok.

  5. Hey Walter,
Very very charged up post. I like the whole motivating angle to this post. Charged me up for sure.
And yes, determination and belief in yourself is all you need to succeed and be something in life. You live life just once…make the most of it NOW!!!

    • Slinger says:

I’m glad to see you again here Zeenat and I’m also glad you liked my post. The reason I wrote my post is to help me charge myself and to share it with others. :-)

  6. Jason says:

Very encouraging post. I think a lot of bloggers should read this because most of them quit early in the game, when they should not.

  7. Josten says:

Today while i was reading the lazy man’s way to riches there was a brief quote from Ghandi and i must say after reading that i was blown away because it was true. It said if i believe i cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when i believe i can then i acquire the ability to do it, even if i did not have the ability in the beginning. That showed me hope and that i’m able to do anything i believe i can.
    Great post

  8. Thanks for the encouraging post Walter. It came at the right time and I like how you mention the easy path. I was just listening to Robert Kiyosaki talk about how it’s easy to give up when things get tough. The hard thing to do is stick to a commitment you made.

  9. Hilda says:

I love that Ghandi quote too, and use if often. You are so right: “we are more than we think we are.” It’s something we need to remind ourselves everytime our belief starts to flag.

On the ‘one chance at life’ point, I do believe in reincarnation, but I still think we should approach each of our lives as if it’s the one and only – if we do it right this time it could be our last ;-)

  10. Hi Walter,

I love the message of this post. :) I grew up in a house where one parent believed in limitations and another parent thought limitations were an illusion.

As I got older, I began to realize that limitations were illusions. We are so powerful and capable of so much but we have been led to believe that we are small and insignificant.

People like Einstein and Ford and so on, are not special in the sense that they were given special powers. On the contrary, they just knew how to make the most out of what they had and they thought outside of the box. We are all amazing and we all have something to share with the world. We are all important. :)

    Hope all is awesome!

  11. Mark says:

Success is found in the journey not in the end result. Yes, we must live from spirit, be strong and keep moving and not succumb to our self inflicted limitations.

    • Slinger says:

You’re right about this Mark, we must live from spirit, not in the limitations set forth by our negatively conditioned mind. :-)

  12. Sara says:

Walter — I liked this post for many reasons. I think it is very important to keep at something and believe that you will make it happen. I also thought this post was very motivating.

My favorite line, however, was this one, “Oh, I almost forgot; you can’t do wonders if you’re six feet below the ground. So charge right NOW!”

Now…that’s what I call MOTIVATION to get going! Thanks:~)

    • Slinger says:

I’m very glad this post motivated you Sara. We all have the power to make things happen in our life. All that we need is realization. :-)

  13. What an inspirational post, Walter,

I love the part where you wrote, “What’s important is your determination to reach the finish.” I agree. We may not become an overnight success, but with the right attitude, tenacity and determination, we can accomplish more than we’ve ever dreamed.

Just as you’re encouraging all of us to reach for our dreams, I wish you the best on accomplishing yours, as well. http://www.lionslinger.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

    • Slinger says:

My heartfelt appreciation to you Barbara. Thank you for sharing me your thoughts and I wish you also the best. Let’s keep on going. See you at the finish! :-)

  14. Thanks for this encouragement! I’m at a deciding point in my life where fear is ever ready to swallow me, ;-) You’re right, we humans have a certain way of easily giving up on things that matter most to us while holding on to things that make us miserable.

  15. Walter,
I like how you write we struggle doing what’s good for us and hang on to those that aren’t. I’ve never looked at it this way. It’s almost funny.

Bill Gates and Tiger Woods are examples of people who believed in themselves. It’s too bad we look at them as the exception!

    • Slinger says:

It’s funny how we see successful people as exceptional, not realizing that we also have it in us. We are not aware of our own greatness. :-)

  16. [...] Deciding point: conquering limitations [...]

  17. Hi Walter – There is so much agony leading up to important decisions, isn’t there? And why do we put ourselves through it? In traditional sales training, the point just before the buyer decides is referred to as a moment of insanity.

And you’re right, most of us have little tolerance for difficulty. We’ve convinced ourselves somehow that things should be easy.

I loved this: “Our mind is stubborn to change; it loves status quo and is afraid to stand out. It readily believes in popular opinion and is blind to even the starkest truth. No wonder few have made a mark in this world.” It is true that the greatest limitations we find are the ones we think we have.

Thank you. A great read for my first visit, and a new subscription.

    • Walter says:

      @ Betsy
Making important decisions is indeed an agony. However, we must pass by it. Thank you Betsy for sharing your views and for subscribing. :-)

  18. Conquering our limitations is one of the hardest challenge that we might encounter. But the enemy itself is ourselves.

One way to conquer your fear is to think of the outcome ahead. Envision yourself to have achieved the goals that you have. In doing so, you get motivated into taking massive actions in achieving those goals.

    • Walter says:

      @ Tyrone.
I agree with you Tyrone, conquering our limitation is a huge challenge and conquering fear is a powerful step to move forward. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. :-)

  19. Walter, your blog is full of such positivity, as are your comments over at my blog. I am SO glad to have met up with you, and grateful for your attitude of gratitude. THANK YOU!

  20. Omar says:

Love this post. I like the imagery with the man and the maze on the left side of the post. Anyway, your absolutely right that we only have one life. We have to push pass fears and limitations to achieve gereatness. It’s mind over matter. I’m still trying to master it. Programming the mind with positive thoughts can help one achieve their dreams. It’s an everyday battle against negativity.

  21. Ching Ya says:

Well shared, Walter! Our minds are indeed stubborn, we are so easily affected by negativity especially when there’s a decision to be made. I agree that we have greater potentials eventhough we are not invincible. Something may require much time to discover. Hopefully whenever we’re facing the crossroads, there’s a realization to keep us motivated and conquer our limitations.

    • Walter says:

@Ching – Yes you are Ching. Our mind is indeed stubborn, but we can always have the choice to outgrow it. Though it may take time, however it’s worth the effort. :-)

Programming the mind with positive thoughts can help one achieve their dreams. Of course without any stimulation you wont get to the point. But it’s worth of a try.
